How fascinating. This is what I'd call a lock I think. I didn't know the word Barage, but a good one! Must be just lovely to walk along here and take it all in.
Nice choice. I watched a water reclamation program about Singpore last night. It was interesting and I think it is also transforming raw sewage into drinking water and using water from the ocean. Your country seems to be way ahead of most others.
I wrote in my Memories blog about the roads of my youth and how they were to travel in the winter time.
Jilly, While we were touring the place, the guide told us that they use the word Barrage instead of locks / dam because Barrage separates fresh water and sea water. While Dams and Locks separates only fresh water and fresh water / sea water and sea water.
Hyde DP, Ya, it was only completed in 2008. To add another reservoir to store more drinking water for this tiny island.
Sally, Those blue things are the PUB's (Public Utility Board) water mascot. They are cute and big droplets of water.
42 Deg is hot enough! We don't even get temp that high in Spore!
Abraham Lincoln, Ya, we started to drink sewage water a few years ago. haha.. Those that have been processed and mixed into the reservoirs. I think many countries are reclaiming sewage now to get more clean water for drinking.
Zannnie, Xin Nian Kuai Le! Makan too much! Way too much, must go on diet liao!
Lavenderlady, Those blue thingy was up because they had a carnival ;-) It's hot air balloons on the water mascot.

ReplyDeleteI think this is something that wasn't there when we came in 2001 - I like those blue touches.
ReplyDeleteAnd the blue things are....? Not TOO hot in Sydney - one day 42 deg, but nothign like the heatwave in more southern parts.

Happy CNY and happy theme day, Keropok! :)
ReplyDeleteHow was the 'makan session' back home?:D
Like Sally, I want to know what the blue things are. I'm thinking balloons that mark the lock and warn boats/planes they are getting to close. Yes?
ReplyDeleteHo ho...must be quite deep here...And like some other visitors, I wonder about these strange big blue men...

Thanks for sharing what the blue things were. I liked LavenderLady's guess.
ReplyDeletehappy theme day
Very nice, I like the blue balloons!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you solved the mystery of the blue things. They look a bit like tele tubbies.
ReplyDeleteThe blue balloons are very eyecatching. I couldn't decide between a dam or a lock until i read your further explanation.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a nice walk. Thanks for explaining the differences between barrages, locks, and dams!
ReplyDeleteI quite like the big water droplets. They are a nice touch!
ReplyDeletelove the footbridge but what are the blue balloons?? :)
