Yellow Pages
Around half a year ago, I sign up to participate in some NFC Phone Trial. The trial's done and we got sms to return the phones. The company that collects the mobile phone back is located in the Yellow Pages building.
I wondered, does anyone still use the Yellow Pages? I don't even collect the hardcopies of the yellow pages nowadays. I seem to search the internet for most things.
Do you still use the Yellow Pages? When was the last time you used it?

The Media Centre
I was on half day leave today and was at the Media Centre today to collect something.
Media Centre belongs to Singapore Press Holdings, commonly known as SPH. In Singapore it publishes 14 newspapers in 4 different languages. Plus many magazines too. I was there to collect a free gift that came with one my magazine subscription.
Are you one of those that 'have' to read the newspapers everyday? Failing which, you feel that something's missing. :-)

CBD view from The Padang
This was taken on Friday night as I walked towards the Victoria Concert Hall, where I watch the Angela Hewitt plays Bach.
The background, the lights of the buildings with people still slaving away....
Sis and I went for the concert, while our brother was slogging away till 11pm. (sigh...)
Are you a serial slogger as well?

Angela Hewitt Plays Bach
Last night I attended a performance by Angela Hewitt. Angela is hailed as "the pre-eminent Bach pianist of our time" by The Guardian.
It was enjoyable as she played all the Prelude & Fugue No.1 to No.24, all going up a semitone from C major to B minor. Yes, she played it full of expression and from memory! (I remember struggling to play long ago, yet she played it superbly from memory!)
No photography in the concert hall. So this is the program booklet and my J.S. Bach Prelude & Fugue scores I had to play for my ABRSM more than 15 years ago.
The concert is in two parts. Book I yesterday and Book II tomorrow night (Apr 27). If you are in Singapore, you can still buy the tickets if they are not sold out.
Were you one of those kids who was 'forced' to go for classical music lessons (and hated it) when you were young, and eventually appreciated your parents effort when you grow up? ;-)

JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge
Another photo of the run. Looks like many are in their company t-shirts.
Good publicity for all the companies as well eh?
According to the website, there's 12,748 participants from 351 companies represented.
It looks like the dark clouds behind is not preventing all these people from running.
Run Forest Run!
Do you like running? I have friends who wakes up at 4 am to run before going to work!

Horse No. 2 - The Winning Horse
AliceSg photographed the horses in front of Plaza Singapura. I happen to take the same photo too! I took it during the day.
These horses are part of the Singapore International Racing Festival activities. They are displayed around Singapore.
This is called Horse No. 2 - The Winning Horse.
I shall bring you more horses the next few days.
You can see a pdf document about these horses at this link from the TurfClub Website.
I have not been to the Turf Club. I have only been to 'a Turf Club' in Caulfield, Melbourne, Australia. I was not to watch races, but for the university exams! Many universities in Australia use the Turf Clubs as exam venues. Have you been a turf club? What did you do there?

SoC Student Lounge
Last Thursday, colleagues and I was curious when we saw an email about the Opening of a new student lounge. So we went over for the opening of a new 'Student Lounge' in conjunction with the 10th Anniversary of the NUS School of Computing.
Well, the Computing students are definitely well taken care of! The lounge had comfortable couch, big LCD TVs for Wii Games, etc...
What caught our eye was the Table Soccer set! We were tempted and had a few rounds of it.
A colleague said, too bad they did not get a Tornado brand. (Our colleague is a table soccer fan) But well it's good enough. For most places, you have to pay for the ball to play, but it seems this is free. Oh lucky fellas!

rednano adverts
A new online search facility has been launched in Singapore. It's a joint venture between a publisher of the biggest local newspaper and a Norwegian firm.
It's called Red Nano. Why? I guess Singapore's also known as a red dot. Now the dot's getting smaller with them naming it nano.
RedNano's are very aggressive in their advertising. Their ads have been appearing in the local papers. Earlier today, I saw this on the underground trains stations.
Which is your favourite search engine?

Alexandra Link
This is the Alexandra Link taken from below the bridge. Was walking past it earlier today and took a photo of it.
Alexandra Link is a 50 metre bridge over Alexandra Road that is part of the elevated walkway towards Telok Blangah Hill Park.
It's all part of a 9km long Southern Ridges, a series of nature trails and bridges that will link Mount Faber, Telok Blangah Hill and Kent Ridge.
I am so so ready to walk the 9 km of it. Waiting for it to be fully opened ;-)

blue.. the colour of the singapore flyer...
The Singapore Flyer's officially opening is today. Yes, it has been open to the public since March 1, but there's always the "official opening" thingy.
I read in the newspaper today that it is also the world's largest observation wheel.
Here's a very different view of the wheel. The blue hues of the wheel looks like a fire wheel from a far.
Click here to view the photos I have taken of the wheel since it was just a skeleton here.

Another Pan Pacific coming up...
This is a new Pan Pacific chain in Singapore. It is called the Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Singapore.
What caught my eye was the capsule shape of the building. I guess it does not show really well on this photo. This is the 'back' of the hotel.
But I guess you can get a better view from their website. I should take a few extra steps to walk to the other side to take a photo. :-)

Parking at a No Parking Lot
Saw this earlier tonight at a parking lot at Sunset Way.
Do you think the driver parked there because he/she did not see the "No Parking" sign?
Or he or she gets the kick out of parking in a lot that has "No Parking" on it. Maybe I fell into his/her trap. I took a photo of it and that might be what they are hoping for! LOL.
Does this happen frequently in your city too?

Train Station again...
Happen to walk past the same spot as I did two days ago!
Today I got to capture the lights in a different colour! The LED panel facade changes every few minute or so.
The building behind is International Plaza that got renovated quite recently. I just found out that this building was actually completed in 1976!!

Reflections
I have a colleague who keeps a tiny fish tank in his office. Whenever people walk in, they will stare at the fish. (I am one of them)
These are 3 orange fishes that co-exist with many others in this little tank. You see 6 because some are reflections!
Can you also see the neon coloured fish too? Think they are called tetras.

Blessed are those who ride the train...
It has been a long long day. Those are my friends as they are all entering the Tanjong Pagar train station.
We have just finish Bible Study at a church just 100 metres away. From the passage in Matthew we studied today, we can say....
Blessed are those who take the train service.
For they will reach home in time.
Blessed are those who take the train service.
For they lower their carbon footprint.
Blessed are those who take the train service.
For they rode with SMRT which won the international "Best Passenger Service" award.

Was Carpark, Now Funky Mall - Orchard Central
In Singapore, once you don't visit a place for sometime, you will realise that.. hey, things have changed! About a year or so, this place was a public car park.
But today, you see a brand new building and a very interesting design too. It's one that has jagged windows, futuristic coverings, lots of glass kind of stuff. It's called Orchard Central.
Was just taking a look at their website at www.orchardcentral.net and it looks interesting. Can't wait for the building to be completed! Hmm it has what is called Urban Verandah. It would be nice to eat there! hehe...

Boys Brigade
Earlier today at church, the Boys Brigade performed a song for the congregation. They were singing with such conviction and enthusiasm. Part of the big group of young boys who performed.
It is the 2nd service for the day. At the earlier service they had the BB/GB Enrollment Service 2008.
These young ones will be the leaders of our future. Anyone from the Boys Brigade or Girls Brigade?
Want to find out more about Boys Brigade in Singapore? Point your mouse to www.bb.org.sg

How Big Is Your Feet?
Almost every mall in Singapore is have some sort "fashion show" as the Singapore Fashion Festival is currently running.
This was spotted at noon today at Vivo City. A fashion show sponsored by Converse. The show has not started, but I just happen to walk by.
That shoe is so so big! What is your shoe size?

DP Theme Day for April - Water! (the cost of it)
It's April 1, and it's also the Daily Photo community's Theme Day. The theme for this April is water.
I can imagine all the water photos that is going to be posted. After much though, I decided to post my latest utility bill to show you how much water cost in Singapore. Well, it is uniquely Singapore. LOL..
In Singapore, other than paying for the usage of water, you pay a waterborne fee and a Sanitary Appliance Fee.
You also have a Water Conservancy Tax for using water. And on top of that, you got to pay a GST of 7% on the Water Conservancy Tax too! (haha.. not it's not an April Fool joke. We pay taxes on taxes here.) Water is very very precious in Singapore thus the price is expensive.
How much do you pay for water every month in your city?
Find out more about how other Daily Photo bloggers are interpreting this month's theme. There's 178 cities participating. Due to time differences, some photos might appear at a later time.
