One thing about visiting UK is that museums are free! So, lots of visitors never fail to visit the museums there.
Will that be possible in Singapore? Oh yes, from 1 - 15 August 2008. The museums are free if you enter after 3 pm. (why not the whole day I wonder...)
Momo, sis and I went to the museum on the 25th of last month. We saw many things that we have not seen since we were little kids. Some of it looks familiar, others, we were not even born yet!
From the bottles above, we only remember the Yeo's soya bean and Kickapoo Joy Juice.
(my bro recently told me, Kickapoo is actually not Asian like many of us grew up to know!)
These museums are free to visit till 15 Aug. (after 3pm)
Asian Civilisations Museum, Memories At Old Ford Factory, National Archives of Singapore, National Museum of Singapore, Peranakan Museum, Reflections at Bukit Chandu, Singapore Art Museum and Singapore Philatelic Museum.
Fun glass and bottle collection! Enjoy the free museum visits.
ReplyDeleteso the pictures taken is from museum in uk? i'd like to visit asian civilisations museum, might be going this weekend.
ReplyDeleteDwD, these photos are from the National Museum of Singapore ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love the picture. In nyc, museums are open late on Friday nights and it is free for New Yorkers. Plus, little known fact: some museums (like the Met) list a "suggested donation" - for example, "suggested donation: $20". This is only indicative, it means that if you don't have the means or whatever else drives your decision, you can pay whatever you want. But as a volunteer docent at the Met, I would rather recommend to sign up for a membership (as low as $60), which is tax deductible and lets you in every day if you want to! Plus, you become a sponsor of the arts. And how cool does that sounds? Hmm???
ReplyDeleteVery nice pictures! Good work man!
ReplyDeleteWhy after 3 pm? Strange. Oh yes those bottles and cups and the bottle opener are familar. We used to serve our relatives with those cups during Chinese New Year. I was born then..hehehe am in my late forties. :) Too bad my mom dont keep them as momentos.
ReplyDeleteHi Eliane,
ReplyDeleteHmm i wonder if membership for museums for Singapore are tax deductible. I shall go ask one of my friends who works in one of the museums. That scheme in NYC is so cool!
Thanks Pete.
Alice,
Maybe they have less people visiting after 3pm? hahah...
Ya, most of the things we used to have, parents have all thrown it away!!
For what it's worth, the name "Kickapoo Joy Juice" originally comes from an old American comic strip called "Li'l Abner": have a look here.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw the canned product in Singapore I thought it was pretty funny, as the stuff in the comic didn't look like anything you'd want to put in your mouth, let alone swallow...
i like this pic..very nice and unique ^^
