DP Theme Day for April - Water! (the cost of it)

It's April 1, and it's also the Daily Photo community's Theme Day. The theme for this April is water.

I can imagine all the water photos that is going to be posted. After much though, I decided to post my latest utility bill to show you how much water cost in Singapore. Well, it is uniquely Singapore. LOL..

In Singapore, other than paying for the usage of water, you pay a waterborne fee and a Sanitary Appliance Fee.

You also have a Water Conservancy Tax for using water. And on top of that, you got to pay a GST of 7% on the Water Conservancy Tax too! (haha.. not it's not an April Fool joke. We pay taxes on taxes here.) Water is very very precious in Singapore thus the price is expensive.

How much do you pay for water every month in your city?

Find out more about how other Daily Photo bloggers are interpreting this month's theme. There's 178 cities participating. Due to time differences, some photos might appear at a later time.

  1. And how does that compare to what you pay for, say, electricity?

  2. Wow, that certainly puts things in perspective! I am going to have to check our bill when I get home (currently I'm in Pennsylvania on work). You guys pay a lot for the commodity we all take for granted, no?

  3. Very clever because it is unique. Good choice!!

  4. Brilliant interpretation of the theme. Good job!!

~$100 for water bill? Yikes, Malaysia is robbing your guys blind. :-)

Is Singapore still dependent on Johore for drinking water?

  8. Great take on the theme, my water bill varies by season...about $30/Winter and $65/summer.

  9. We pay water rates annually - they are calculated on the basis of something called rateable value which is an archaic system that bears little relation to real values - nowadays though you can opt to have a water-meter and pay according to usage.

  11. Hi Keropok.. water has always been a sensitive issue between M'sia and Singapore. But for citizens of both countries, water is equally precious.

    Happy Theme Day!

  12. Three months: 1 Jan - 31 March : $141. That's for a household of 3. We use less than the average for a household of 1. So about $50 a month.

  13. Oh fabulous for today's Theme Day. So original. So creative.

I have a spring on my land but unfortunately it's blocked. think 'Manon des Sources' so the water bill mounts up if I want to water the garden.

  17. Nice idea, we dont pay a lot for our water, but it has been in short supply during the summers. Makes us have to watch how much we use.

  18. Keropok Man, You get my vote for most original take on our theme! Not only is it a unique take, it emphasizes the admiration the whole world has for the attention Singapore has paid to math and its prowess in teaching it well, producing the most math literate population anywhere.
