More Donuts craze: Doughnalisa at Vivo City

More donuts craze in Singapore. It seems that donuts is gaining a sudden popularity.

Other than the long queue at Raffles City basement, I saw another donut shop at Vivocity yesterday. We were on our way to have lunch celebrating a colleague's birthday.

So innovative! The picture caught my eye!



No, I did not queue up. Maybe I shall show the donuts picture another day.

Are you crazy about doughnuts? I wonder when Krispy Kreme will come to Singapore. The franchise fee is reportedly very high. Krispy Kreme is ok eaten straight out of the oven. But you get a sugar high!

OK. I can't spell. Is it doughnuts or donuts.

What a beautiful Mural on the wall along Cecil Street.

This is the Telok Ayer Performing Arts Centre at 182 Cecil Street.
It was previously the Telok Ayer Primary School.



In 1985, the primary school was converted to be a performating arts centre. Also, known as TAPAC, it houses arts groups of different cultural traditions and art disciplines.

Ships at Sea....

Today and also tomorrow, I am attending an English class at the British Council. Yes I am attending English Class!!

The course is called "Say It Clearly". Speaking English since young, it's never been this diffucult until today! haha...



Being a Daily Photoblogger, I had my camera with me, and this was the view out the classroom.
Those are the ships that brings goods to Singapore daily.

The Biggest Pair of Singapore Chopsticks

This 61 metres tall memorial is made out of four columns. They represent the four races (Chinese, Malay, Indian and other races), joined at the base signifying the unity of all races.

Every year on 15 February, a memorial service is held here to remember the victims of the war.

If you do a search, you will see that it is also known as "The Chopsticks" at the Civic District.



This monument is dedicated to all those who perished during the Japanese Occupation of Singapore between 15 February 1942 to 12 September 1945. The remains of the unidentified war victims are buried beneath the monument.

It's an Apple Mac Mini with additional RAM, Apple Keyboard and the Mighty Mouse. Dad said the monitor at home is big enough and is quite new, so no new monitor.



Mum's actually quite hi-tech you know.... She had her own 'ISP branded' email address since 1997! That's 10 years ago, and quite an early adopter of broadband too.

Well, I think that's because Dad did not like typing on yahoo messenger, so he got broadband so he could talk (instead of typing) on yahoo messenger to his children overseas. haha...

ERP - Electronic Road Pricing

This is something started in Singapore and has caught on in many countries. It is called Electronic Road Pricing. During peak hours, you pay if you want to use the roads.



This photo shows the rate for entering Orchard Road.

London in recent years also introduced something similar, and they called it Congestion Charge.

This was funny. Saw it few days ago on a SBS Transit bus.
No SUGAR? Afraid that it will attract ants?

Noah Ong performs the drums on Orchard Road (He's Ethan's younger brother)

This is Noah Ong. The little brother of Ethan Ong - Singapore's youngest busker.
(Hmmm I wonder if Noah has taken over the title)

Usually we see Ethan playing, but last Saturday afternoon, we saw it was a younger boy.



Ethan and his dad was at the side enjoying Noah playing Hillsongs on the drums.

This is at Millenia Walk, where the shops are of the more upper class. Sis said walking here is like in Melbourne, Australia. Very Collins or Bourke Street.

Can't Decide What To Drink? - Just order Anything?

It's a new drink that has just been introduced in Singapore.

It's for people who can't decide. It's called Anything.
You buy them, it has no indication of what's inside, it could be Cola, Cola with Lemon, Apple, Fizz Up, Cloudy Lemon, Root beer.



Anything's the fizzy drinks range.

It has a cousin called "Whatever". The same concept, but the drinks are non carbonated like Ice Lemon Tea, Peach Tea, Jasmine Green Tea, White Grape Tea, Apple Tea, Chrysanthemum Tea

Pavement Picasso in Singapore! - Highway under Raffles City!

Julian Beever the Pavement Picasso has gone to many cities. He's here in Singapore. His work is at Raffles City Shopping Centre, right outside Robinsons. I just took this picture 2.5 hours ago.

Cool yah.... It looks so real! It looks as if there's a highway below Raffles City!

Scotts No More....

The building you see here will be gone! It is undergoing demolition and soon it will be gone. Then it will come up again to be a luxury residential development of 43-floors.

Suddenly many buildings in the city centre is being converted to luxury residence. Is this also happening in your city?

East meets West or West meets East, whatever....

Where East Meets West. That's what's being describe for Far East Square.



It is where old meets new. It's an interesting place to visit in Singapore. It has the oldest temple, and cutting edge firms.

There are also lots of restaurants with cuisine coming from France, Italy, Vietnam, Japan and the local flavours of Singapore.

Muah Gurh - Baby's One Month Old

In Chinese culture in Singapore and Malaysia, we celebrate a baby being one month old. In Hokkien dialect it's pronounce 'Muah Gurh'.

Colleagues and friend will usually buy them the baby (or rather the parents) a gift, or being practical people, we usually will give cash in red packets, which we call 'ang pow'.

Close family will usually give gold anklets or gold chains for the baby.

Usually, in Singapore, the parents will invite those who have given them angpow / gifts to a 'come visit the baby' gathering with food and 'show off' the baby.

After the occasion of 'ooo', 'ahhh', 'cute baby' etc... (and also having a meal) the host will give a gift to those who came. The gift usually will have a red egg. Which symbolize a happy prosperous birthday.

This is what I got recently from a colleague's baby's one month bash. It came in a nice cute baby character box, it also had a clear plastic cover over it.



There's always the red egg. This one has a fruit tart as well.
The other packet is glutinous rice pyramid. The red thing is the plastic is 'ang ku kueh' or red turtle cake.

Hippo Tours - Animals on the loose?

First, Happy Mother's Day to all mums viewing this site.
(especially my mummy who also visits)

There's a open roof bus tour in Singapore, and its called the Hippo Tour.




I have yet to ride on this bus thingy. But I have ride on those that tour Paris.

Do you realise that for tourist attraction in cities that you live in, most people have not tried it yet? Sis and I said we going to pretend to be tourist one of these weekend.

Secrets to solving sudoku revealed...

Just half an hour ago, I finally got back home after a whole day out since morning.

What were we doing the last few hours? Taking photos, playing scrabble, solving sudoku puzzles.
This is Sudoku for those who do not know what they are.

They are getting so so popular. Even on public transport, you see pple solving them.



So, the secret to solving when you are stuck? Get an expert! We had a friend who is an expert!


For those who love sudoku, if someone in the bus or train solves it, and you get to see the puzzle, do you ever have the urge to tell the person the answer? I have to restrain myself. haha...

The big trailer that got tilted upwards

Woooow... I was walking to lunch yesterday and saw this trailer's head got tilted up. Initially I thought the Steam Roller that flattens roads was too heavy. Then realise it was jacked up.

There's a good reason too. But.. if you want to try it again, you got to go one big round again...

No, it's not Paris, it's Singapore.

You might think that it's Seine River in Paris, where if you take a river cruise, you go below so many bridges.




This is actually Singapore River. This is the Coleman Bridge, just near the MICA Building with super colourful windows.

Ordered a thousands of cartons boxes for moving...

3 truckloads of carton boxes were ordered I heard for the moving. That's what the admin staff in charge said when we asked what they would be used for.

Move what? Moving a whole faculty from one side of the campus to the other. Seems like a giantic project. The School of Computing at the National University of Singapore's moving. Their main website also has a relocation microsite.



I guess it must be tough reversing a huge truck. Look how intense the driver is!

Other than Merlion Park near the Financial District, you can also find a huge merlion on Sentosa. Can you see it in the background?

Wait! Don't jump off the building!

Yes, don't jump off the building, you are not spiderman. (yes... i just watched Spidey 3 few hours ago)

Instead, try this. It's called the G-Max Reverse Bungy. A extreme high adrenaline pumping thingy located at Clarke Quay.



For this picture, too bad there's no one on it yet. Else, you will see someone in a capsule being shot up high into the sky. The capsule is held together by the two slanting frame. It goes up 60 metres into the air with speeds up to 200km/h!

See the person here in the picture, maybe the guy is asking the girl to go try. haha...

Solar powered Signs

This is an example of signboards that are solar powered in Singapore.
Not all the signboards are like this. Most are printed on reflective materials.



If only solar power will be cheap enough to power air-conditioning units in our home!

Typical Singapore Breakfast

What's that? It's dark soy sauce, pepper and light soy sauce in tiny plastic bottles.



Many older folks like to have this for their breakfast. Actually young ones too!
Toasts with "kaya" and half boiled eggs.



This egg looks yummy? Usually it's poured into a saucer and mixed with dark or light soy sauce and pepper. I like mine plain. Just like in the picture below.



What's your favourite breakfast?

Big Bath Tub sighted at East Coast Park

Did someone just dumped a big tub on the East Coast Park?



It's actually an art piece brought to you by the National Park :-)

The Esplande Roof got struck by lightning!

Last night, The Esplanade's thorny roof grew and expanded. Not all thorns expanded, but only a few of it. But it was enough to cause a horror among the locals. They thought they were in Sydney! I was lucky enough to capture it! Look how some thorns grew and curled up that it looked so much like Sydney's Opera House!



During the night, there was thunder and lighting and it rained the whole night.
The next morning at dawn, it seemed the lighting had struck off those huge thorns! Phew! The Esplanade is back in Singapore.
