Growing Tulips in Singapore

This was my experiment in growing tulips in Singapore. The tulips had winter and spring simulated by placing them in the freezer / refrigerator.

Then I planted the bulbs into the soil in pots in my kitchen.

It started to grow, but sadly it did not flower. 2 other colleagues who did the same thing, but left the plant to grow in air-con rooms had the flower bloomed. It was so pretty. But sadly, mine dried up after 2 weeks without flowering :-(

The bulbs were from Amsterdam, courtesy of colleague who went there for a conference.

  2. I can understand your disappointment, don't give up. It'll be many more months of winter before the tulip field blooms...

  4. Koeiru, Jing, I think trying to plant tulips in 24x7 summer Singapore is too difficult.

As tigerfish says, visiting Keukenhorf is better :-)

  6. I have never been very successful with tulips either, even with our long and wet winter...But you have so many wonderful exotic flowers in Singapore!

  9. hi jk,

my colleague left the plants in the office which had 24 hour air con, and left it by the windows. It somehow bloomed.

The one I had at home, died without a nice full bloom. ;-(
