November Theme Day

The 1st of every month is Theme Day for Daily Photo Bloggers.
This month's theme: "Something that's about to disappear soon"

This is the Arts Canteen at the National University of Singapore. It's one of the many canteens on campus. This canteen will be closed on 18 Nov. (only 18 days away) It will then be demolished. After demolition a new canteen will be built.

This canteen has served the staff and students of NUS for the last 25 years. The roof according to reports have been leaking when it rains. The ventilation is bad. It does not meet the requirements of the National Environment Agency for food hygiene and exhaust systems. So it's time to go... It will soon disappear.....

  4. Well this is good at least in one way, as the canteen will be replaced, unlike various other' things that about to disappear' for good. Thanks.

  6. I sounds like it was time for this canteen to disappear. And you have captured a little bit of the past.

  7. At least it is going to be replaced.

  8. Do they know that you photographed it for history's sake? Sounds like good news for the students!

  9. I can see from your photo that until the new one is built there are a lot of people that will be missing this canteen!

  10. Agree with Felicia, looks that like the students are enjoying themselves!

  11. from the photo only it doesnt seem to me as a dirty place. And people are together enjoying themselves. I dont like too sterile places.

  12. some places ought to give way to newer and more hygienic ones anyway so its not a sad thing to lose this canteen.

but it looks like a lively place.

  14. wow, so many left comments today.

during peak hours, this canteen is pack and stuffy. food vendors complain of leaky roofs.

The canteen will be closed for 10 months! I wonder if some familiar vendors will still be back here after 10 months. Some might just shift elsewhere to continue their business.

I have taken lots of food photos from this canteen. Well, I am looking forward to the new canteen.

  15. Great indoor shot! This will become an historic photo for the campus. . .a before picture to compare with the after picture. Your name could be listed in campus history archives as the photographer. Ah, fame! ;^) I hope the new building is one the students and workers enjoy.

  19. Sounds like a new roof would be cheaper :)

  20. Thanks to the rest who stopped by.

I only have a few pictures of the canteen. I am sure the NUS Musuem would have archived everything accordingly haha..

I like the way bill says it, perhaps a roof would be cheaper.

The place should go. It is just becoming too too small. During lunch hour, sometimes it is impossible to find a seat. Imagine, some people, carrying their food, walking around for 10 mins just trying to find a seat. Poor thing..

  21. it'll be DEMOLISHED?! isn't this the best cafeteria in NUS? hope the stalls will be back once the new building is done...
